WORLD PEACE

Is world peace a mere dream?

Of course! World Peace IS a dream. In fact, it has been the dream of nearly all the inhabitants on Earth for God knows how long! And that’s not just it. It will continue to remain a dream because however hard we may try; one can never achieve eternal peace. Not now, not then, not EVER! Sorry if that sounds really pessimistic but that is the truth. World Peace is just an assumption. After every big war, we believe finally we’ll have some peace. But then the world goes back to the same situation again. There is no answer to this war against humanity nor is there any satisfaction to man’s greed. Whatever happens, human nature hardly ever changes. There have been enough examples in the past to prove this.
“It is your blood or theirs; it is the human blood, after all.
War may go on in the east or the west; it will bleed the peace of the world, after all”
There are times when there is a war going on in other countries and we sit at home watching the news, pitying the citizens and blaming the governments. But honestly is it entirely their fault? The government is not a sorcerer to predict the future. They too are the victims in situations like these. The most we can do (and some of us actually do) is send aids. But even there we make sure that we are not at a loss. What were we doing when Paris got attacked? What were we doing when our very own city was under attack?
Power is considered the main cause for disruption in World Peace. But this is only partially right. The thirst for power is a great cause but not the main cause. According to my understanding, it is the lack of communication or the misunderstandings between people that causes conflicts leading to war. By the way, wars are not the only source of disruption of world peace. Terrorism, feuds, revolts, etc. are also disturbing the peace of society. And for what reason? Because they misinterpreted others’ intentions. Terrorists fear the government is powerful and wishes to rule over them. Now obviously if your freedom is threatened you won’t just sit idle and give some stranger power over your wish, will you? So they try their best to scare the source of power of the government i.e. the public. And in turn the public and government consider them as evil. Terrorists misunderstand the concept of governance and the government’s reaction to their action is not much of a help.
By the way who are terrorists? They are a group of armed men swayed by religion or emotion or forced by poverty to destroy or damage whoever poses a threat to their ideals and sovereignty. Who are the Taliban and ISIS (Islamic States of Iraq and Syria)? This is a point worth noting that at first, Taliban was just a movement. Though it gained momentum when following terrorist attacks on Pakistan, many inhabitants crossed the border to Afghanistan and became refugees. It was those refugees who later on trained and joined to form Taliban and raise it to power. If you suppress them now, they’ll come back later but with renewed energy and doubled hatred.
Same goes for the Second World War. All the power was taken from Germany after the First World War with the intention that it would not be able to revolt. But the Germans misinterpreted the action as a way to disgrace them, and fought back with renewed hatred causing even more destruction than before. It was not like Adolf Hitler or Mussolini had some personal fight against the Allies. It was just their deep rooted Nationalistic feeling that drove them to take such extreme actions.
When the world was made was there any particular leader? From what I know it started with Adam and Eve and the next humans were their children. So where did this concept of handing over the power to one person come from? As far back as history goes, there has always been a monarchy .Whether it be the Egyptians, Romans, Chinese or Mesopotamians. There has always been a monarchy and the throne has been the reason for the decline of them all. All the civilizations, kingdoms aimed for worldly authority and ended up killing each other. In this world when Greed is at its best how can you expect to have something called Peace? But then there is this thing called conflict. If there is no particular person or party ruling over the crowd, there would be conflict among individuals to decide who is better and whose opinion should be obeyed or listened to. This is just the mindset that wherever there is a group of individuals with a common goal there has to be a leader who would monitor them. Even during group projects, everyone expects one person to guide them, give ideas and do all the coordinating work. This person is the group leader. So as much as we might blame the seat of power to be the cause of peace disruption but to live without being led would be a terrible disaster. Everyone thinks they are right and the others are wrong. So without a leader or a decision maker, the world would erupt in confusion and war all the same.
Is the seat of Fame something which everyone wishes for? Or is there something else? Most obvious answer is Money. Today’s world has become so materialistic that everything revolves around wealth. Wealthier the person, happier he is! There are families whose thirst for money has forced them to kill each other. There are friends and relatives back-stabbing each other for property and business. Money is in fact, even greater than hope. When someone’s critically ill, you might as well lose hope. But if you have money, you would still have a hope that the patient can be taken to one of the best doctors and be given all the necessary treatments. So now the race has moved on from acquiring happiness to acquiring wealth. And of course! He, who holds the money, holds power! We all know U.S.A. is now the greatest power holding nation. And being one of the developed nations, it even has a lot of wealth. It doesn’t need to fear any nation. Yet now the world is in such a situation that we can’t help but be afraid as to what would come next?
In this state of uncertainty, when everyone is a suspect and crime is rampant, how can we hope for peace? And as I had said earlier, World Peace is nothing more than a dream. It is that illusionary destination every peace organization aims for. There is no hope for achieving world peace in the near future. But maybe in the course of time the situation might change and people might finally start to understand the way of living peacefully in the society. We can only hope that there would be a time when people would understand and help each other. There might come a time when feelings for each other would dominate over the greed. All we can do is hope.
